New national resource guide for family members and survivors

Families for Safe Streets has developed a new national resource guide for family members and crash survivors. Every crash is unique, and every jurisdiction is unique. We can’t anticipate the myriad circumstances any individual may face across the country. But we can provide a high-level overview, and guide you to key questions to ask and resources to support you.

Families for Safe Streets prepared this guide because we wished we had the information it contains when we experienced the unimaginable, as you have. Whether you have lost a family member in the crash or suffered a serious injury, your world is changed. Your thoughts and feelings may shift from minute to minute or hour to hour, and you could feel completely out of control.

Yet you have to negotiate medical, legal, and other bureaucracies – a process that can be confusing, infuriating, and painful. In the sections listed here, we will guide you through working with the police and the justice system, navigating the logistics of insurance and press requests, advocating for safe streets, and most of all, taking care of yourself and getting the support you need.
