Ride for Sarah Langenkamp

SUNDAY, September 3, 2023 at 3:30pm starting at Wood Acres Elementary School in Bethesda, MD

Join FSS members for a commemorative bike ride for Sarah Langenkamp on Sunday, September 3 at 3:30 pm. It will be a short 3-mile ride, completing the route Sarah was planning the day she was killed, from Wood Acres Elementary School Parking Lot (5800 Cromwell Drive), passing her crash site and traveling along the Capitol Crescent Trail. Afterward, we will enjoy a no-host afternoon of drinks and food at Rock Bottom Brewery (7900 Norfolk Ave, Bethesda, MD 20814). Meet us at the end if you can’t ride!


FSS Cross-Country Support Community Meeting: Forest Bathing- Guided Introduction

Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 6:30pm eastern via Zoom

The effects of traffic violence can include isolation and the sense that others can not understand what you are going through. This is why peer connections are the foundation of our work together. This training will help to develop the strong listening skills and sensitivities we need in order to welcome others into our community.

Older Adult Block Party

If you are a person aged 55 or older, this event is for you! Join community partners at Dupont Circle to celebrate our community and to talk about traffic safety when walking, biking, and driving. This is an informal and free event.

Vigil/ Press Conference for Truck Underride Victims

Thursday, September 14, 2023 from 1pm to 2:30pm at US Department of Transportation

Families of victims of horrifying truck underride crashes will be standing vigil on the steps of the US Department of Transportation in Washington, DC (1200 New Jersey Ave SE). Families will be ringing a bell to memorialize the victims and sound an alarm. Organizers will hold a press conference calling upon the US Department of Transportation to require truck underride guards which will protect pedestrians, cyclists, and the motoring public from these violent and preventable deaths.

DC Family Bike Fest

Sunday, September 17, 2023 from 10am to 2pm at Alethia Tanner Park

Calling all family bikers, kid bikers, cargo bikers, unicyclists, and the bike curious. Everyone is welcome! Connect with other families, check out lots of different bikes, and have fun together.

GWU Hospital: Virtual Trauma Survivors Group

Thursday, September 21 from 6:30pm to 8pm via Zoom

This virtual meeting hosted by the George Washington University Hospital is open to all trauma survivors, family members and loved ones. It is a space where people can connect with other people who have experienced similar circumstances.

Truck Safety Coalition’s Fundraising Soiree

Friday, September 29, 2023 from 6pm to 9pm in Eastern Market

You’re invited to the Truck Safety Coalition’s 1st annual fundraising soiree held at The Yard in Eastern Market (700 Pennsylvania Ave SE). The Truck Safety Coalition is dedicated to reducing the number of deaths and injuries caused by truck-related crashes, providing compassionate support to truck crash survivors and families of truck crash victims, and educating the public, policy-makers, and media about truck safety issues. FSS Member Daniel Langenkamp will be honored as a part of the soiree’s program.
